Wild and Crazy Thoughts Have Power!

Yesterday I was talking to my six year old niece Lila, who lives in Florida. She misses me and wishes she could come visit me, and I wish the same. I told her maybe someday we’d have private airplanes and could fly over for the day to visit. She laughed and said she knew that wouldn’t be happening. I suggested that maybe someday we’d be able to push a button and just teleport to wherever we wanted to go. I told her that 100 years ago airplanes didn’t even exist and nobody thought people could ever fly. But because the Wright brothers held onto that wild and crazy thought, now airplanes are commonplace. It was just 50 years ago that President Kennedy challenged Americans to put a man on the moon. This week the last space shuttle was launched, putting an end to that program but opening the door to who knows what else in terms of explorations of outer space?

I believe we will be teleporting one day. It’s been the stuff of science fiction for a long time now and those wild and crazy ideas that we label science fiction have an uncanny way of coming into physical reality. Cell phones, personal computers, smart phones, airplanes, rocket ships…… In “Through the Looking Glass” Alice has a conversation with the White Queen that is well worth reading…full of wild and crazy thoughts that make for interesting thinking–like backwards thinking. One comment the Queen makes when Alice says that there’s no use in trying to believe impossible things is:  ‘I daresay you haven’t had much practice. When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.

Maybe you want to keep thinking of impossible things like teleporting. Maybe your impossibles are more down to earth like finding a romantic partner or passing a test or having a home of your own. Whatever it is that is just outside your reach and know-how but ensconced firmly on the throne of your heart, think that! Spend time daydreaming about it. Get excited about it. Feel the feelings now that you’ll have when you’ve made that dream come true. Make sure you’ve always got something wild and crazy to think about if you want a life that is full of zest!
